Dual Language Learning Opportunities: We are proud to announce that we have decided to add another valuable element, to our preschool curriculum, Chinese as a second language. Research on early language learning has shown that learning a second language at a young age not only increases the probability of acquiring native pronunciation as well as proficiency in that language, but also enhances the first language learning and brain development. The pre-schoolers will be receiving a half hour Chinese lesson once a week. The lesson will include a variety of teaching techniques to enhance their comprehension of the language and cultural traditions. These techniques include: cooking, music/dance, crafts, nursery rhymes, and Chinese storybooks. Our Infant/Toddler House will continue their ongoing efforts in teaching sign language. Research has proven that using sign language with non-verbal children, such as infants and some toddlers improves communication and prevents frustration. Offering the infant/toddler a means to communicate their needs and feelings with their caregiver fosters their sense of independence, self-esteem, and social skills. We believe that offering both of these dual language learning opportunties will help our children gain valuable skills that will last their lifetime. |
